Syed Arifuzzaman is one of the leading NGO practitioners in Bangladesh. He has been serving for the last 21 years at different national and international organizations including CARE and WorldFish in a variety of development and research fields. After completing his Post Graduate degree in General History he started Activity for Reformation of Basic Needs (ARBAN), a non-profit entity in Bangladesh In 2002. “Information is power, rural people need access to information”- is the central theme of his efforts. ARBAN has successfully developed ICT based innovative models and methodologies through conducting Action Research.

Syed Arifuzzaman has been recognized as a pioneer in forming and leading a team of young, energetic and dedicated ICT experts under the platform of ARBAN-IT. He has designed ICT4D projects that achieved national and international awards including the National Digital Innovation Award (2011), South Asia based Manthan Award (2011), Microsoft and World Bank organized ‘Youth Solutions’ Grant competition held in Sri Lanka (finalist, 2013) etc. and featured by many national and international print and electronic media.

In the ‘Novel Molecular Approaches for Advancing Prediction and Mitigation of Disease Outbreaks in Aquaculture for Small Scale Farmers’project Syed Arifuzzaman is a Co-Investigator. Under his leadership a team will develop mobile Apps and other technological solutions to support the project. Three female staff, Ranu Begum, Monjura and Suhada Akter will work under an innovative model at ARBAN, ‘Info-Peddler’, to train farmers in using mobile Apps and other ICT (devices and multimedia content). This will directly connect farmers with researchers through the use of ICT. The ARBAN team will also provide technical knowledge exchange to other project countries- India and Malawi -through workshops, seminars, training and field visits.
