David Bass is Co-Investigator and Cefas lead on the GRP Aquaculture project. He is a protistologist and molecular pathologist at Cefas (The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science), and Research Leader in microbial evolution and ecology in The Natural History Museum, London.

Bass has expertise in phylogenetic analyses, molecular biodiversity studies including high throughput sequencing (HTS) and related bioinformatics, environmental metagenomics and metatranscriptomics. He develops and uses environmental DNA (eDNA) methods for investigating pathogen diversity, distribution, and lifecycles in an ecosystem context, and for lineage discovery, phylogenetics, and estimating disease risk.
