Dr. Ramesh K.S. is a Professor of Aquaculture at the College of Fisheries, KVAFSU, Mangaluru, India. His current research includes health management in aquaculture and transfer of aquaculture technologies to farmers. He has handled Indian Council of Agricultural Research funded research project on Disease resistance mechanisms in stunted carp fingerlings and dissemination of proven technologies from lab to farmers’ field.

For the objectives of this current project, a comprehensive study on the shrimp farming practices in the west coast of India will be conducted. This will include standardizing the sampling protocols to collect pond variable environment data and shrimp samples for modelling and predicting disease risk. Further studies will focus on analyzing the effect of probiotics on the microbiome to improve the health of shrimp and increase production per unit area.

Finally, the project outcomes will be disseminated to small-scale shrimp farmers through demonstrations and training programmes.
