Nicola has expertise in environmental microbiology and chemistry and has worked in a number of scientific research and project management positions both in the public sector and in industry.  She began her career as a research scientist at Unilever Research in the UK, working on the R&D of novel household hygiene products. After a move to Sydney, Australia she joined the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Division of Land and Water. Her work here focused on the chemical and microbiological analysis of natural waters for industry clients and government agencies and she had responsibility for managing and delivering both research-based and commercial projects. This included working as a consultant for OK Tedi Mining Ltd (Papua New Guinea) and as the Environment Stream Leader for the CSIRO Nanosafety Theme investigating the fate, behavior and toxicity of manufactured nanoparticles in the environment.

Nicola is the project manager for the Aquaculture project and is based at the University of Exeter. She is responsible for commumications and data management, and ensuring that project objectives are delivered to agreed timescales.
